Default Setting: Flexible Billing Date
When a new subscription is created in Octany, it's charged immediately, and then on the same day the next period. For a product that's billed monthly, a payment made on November 30th will next be charged on December 30th. Since February only has 28 days, the subscription will then renew on February 28th and subsequently on March 28th.
Exception: Direct Debit (Autogiro) When someone chooses to pay with Direct Debit, it takes a few days before the customer's bank approves the mandate. This means the first charge will be a few days late. Typically, the first charge is processed after approximately 7 banking days.
Fixed Renewal Date
Let's say we have a product that renews monthly and we've set a fixed billing date to the 27th of each month. When a subscription is created on, for example, April 15th, the system will wait until April 27th and only then process the first charge.
Then the following month, the charge will occur on May 27th, followed by June 27th, etc...
Exception: Card
When a payment is made with a card, we must charge the card immediately. Current security procedures from card issuers and banks require us to charge the card and have it approved with another factor at purchase (e.g., Mobile BankID). When a subscription is created on, for example, April 15th, we charge immediately and then on May 26th.
Exception: Swish
When a payment is made with Swish, a Swish payment will be processed immediately. When a subscription is created on, for example, April 15th, we charge the first payment immediately and then follow the schedule where the transaction occurs on the 27th of each month.
Exception: Direct Debit (Autogiro)
The renewal date for Direct Debit must occur at least 7 days before the next charge. The reason is that we create files for Bankgirot 7 days before the charge. So if there are less than 7 days until the next charge, any change to the renewal date in Octany won't take effect.
How to Set Renewal Dates for Your Products
Go to Products, select the product you want to edit, and then "Edit product".
At the bottom, you'll see "Set advanced billing options":
