Card payments

Updated over a week ago

Card payments are the fastest to get started with. It only takes a couple of minutes until you are up and running.

Step by step guide to activate card payments

Go to Admin

Go to Settings

Then go to Payment Methods

When you get started with card payments, you need to have the following ready:

  • Bank account

  • Names of board members

  • A private or public phone number

Getting Started - Nonprofit Organizations

Enter your email address & set a password

Activate two-step authentication

Enter the code for two-step verification

Save the security code for your account

Select where you operate and what type of business you run

As a nonprofit organization, you choose "Non-profit" and specify whether you are a registered non-profit organization or not.

Then press Continue

Fill in your information

As your industry, you can specify "Charitable or social service organizations"

Specify a company representative

Specify who sits on the board

Enter details for payouts to your bank account

Specify how you want the statement to appear for your donors/customers

Note that your name needs to be between 5-22 characters long, and maximum 10 characters for the optional shortened name.

Also note that the images shown are only an example of a statement. You likely won't be selling T-shirts or using USD currency. Instead, the product name will be what you have in Octany and the currency will be the same as you selected in Octany.

Finally, you enter your phone number and deactivate the phone number from appearing on receipts. Thus, no phone number is visible externally, but is only an important information point in your account. If you don't have a phone number for your organization, you can therefore use your private phone number.

Then log in to your account on Stripe and change these settings:

1) Go to Settings

2) Go to Subscriptions and email

3) Change "Subscription Status" to "Mark as Unpaid"

4) Save

These settings allow that if a number of payment attempts have been made and failed, the subscription will not be canceled, but left as unpaid. This means that the subscription can be activated again with a new charge if desired.

Business
As a Business, you specify your company structure.

  • Limited company (AB): Choose "Private company"

  • Sole proprietorship: Choose "Unregistered business" since a sole proprietorship is not a separate legal entity in the same way as a limited company.

  • "Limited partnership" is another business form that differs from both limited companies and sole proprietorships - it's a type of trading partnership with at least one general partner (who has unlimited liability) and at least one limited partner (who is only liable for their contribution).

  • Other/I'm not sure: can be used if none of the other categories fit your business form.
